Are you experiencing testicular pain with no clear cause? Maybe you’ve been to a number of physicians or a urologist and they haven’t been able to identify the cause. Or maybe it was diagnosed as bacterial, but antibiotics didn’t relieve the pain.
So what could it be? It might be the pelvic floor.
The pelvic floor muscles stretches from the pubic bone to the tailbone. If these muscles become too tight, it can cause a variety of symptoms, including testicular pain.
What happens if these muscles are too tight? Picture holding a fist very tightly for 30 seconds. You might notice after you release your fist that there’s tension in the wrist and the fingers might feel a bit numb. Imagine holding that for months of years. This is no different than what can happen in the pelvic floor.
Pelvic floor tension can be caused by anything. Causes include: past sports injuries, postural habits, stress, anxiety or even holding your abdominals too tight. You might not even know that there is tension in your pelvic floor – you could have had pelvic floor tension for years and it’s now just showing up as testicular pain.
Over time, the muscles become taught (just like the fist) and compress around the blood vessels and nerves in that area. This restricts the blood flow and create symptoms such as pain, burning or tightening in the testicular area.
Pelvic floor tension can also cause myofascial or fascial restrictions in that area. It can also be caused by misalignment, either in the pelvis or another part of the body.
