“Prasarita Padottanasana with a Twist”
This is an excellent Yoga pose also known as to improve hamstring, calf, adductor length as well as shoulder and torso length. It is believed to aid in digestion and massages the organs of the abdomen such as the kidney, liver and spleen to help cleanse the body and reduce toxins. It also helps with stress and relieves anxiety.
Stand with your feet wide apart ~3-4 feet to start. Place your hands on your hips and take a breath in and hinge forward at the hips until your trunk is parallel to the floor. Place the palms of your hands on the ground with fingers spread apart. Your hands should be in line with your feet. At this point you may feel a nice stretch on the inside of your thighs, hamstrings and calf. Your head and neck should remain relaxed and shoulder blades pressed slightly down and back towards each other. If this feels like a good stretch you can stop here and hold for 30-60 seconds taking slow deep breaths. To progress further, turn one of your hands towards the sky while twisting your torso towards that side.Turn your head towards the hand as long as you do not have any neck problems. Stop when you feel a nice stretch and hold for 30-60 seconds, taking slow inhales and exhales.
